1) Wheelchair Tennis State Championship – Apr. 11-13, Ridgeland
The Mississippi Rock N Roll Wheelchair Tennis State Championship will be held April 11 – 13, at the Ridgeland Tennis Center at 201A McClellan Drive in Ridgeland. This is a Southern Grand Prix Series Tournament. Matches will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call Johnny McGinn at 601.209.4799.
2) Free Self-Advocacy Webinar – Apr. 24
The Advocacy TEAMM Mississippi Project and the Mississippi Self-Advocacy Team are co-sponsoring a free webinar on April 24, from 10 – 10:30 a.m. This webinar will reinforce why young people with disabilities need to learn how to share their voice and become true self-advocates. State and national resources available to help young people take charge of their lives will be discussed. Cynthia “Cindy” A. Singletary, a self-advocate who collaborates with organizations throughout Mississippi and the nation, will be the speaker. Her collaborations include work in self-advocacy, disability rights and transition of youth with disabilities. 3) Limb Loss Awareness Education Day – Apr. 26, Long Beach
Limb Loss Awareness Education Day is an event designed to heighten community awareness of those living with and caring for limb loss. This special day will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Technology Learning Center (TLC) of the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. 4) Participants Wanted for Research Study
The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is looking for adults aged 18 years and over with children living in the household to answer a variety of health questions that may be asked on a national survey. The interview will be no longer than 60 minutes and participants will receive $40. NCHS want to talk to parents or guardians of children 2 to 17 years of age who may have difficulties in seeing, hearing, walking, learning and behavior. 5) New App – the Canopy Medical Translator
This free app translates medical phrases covering history, physical exam, procedures, and reassessment in Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Bengali, Filipino, Hindi, Korean, Malay, Portuguese, Russian, Vietnamese, and more. Communicate instantly with patients in any language. And when needed, call medical interpreters with one click right from the app which is currently only available via the App Store.
