4) Resources for Families: Building Your Care Notebook
The National Center for Medical Home Implementation provides resources for families to organize and maintain records of their child's health care services to ensure that care is comprehensive, coordinated, and family-centered. Examples of resources include appointment logs, medical bill tracking forms, and a list of questions to ask clinicians. The Transitions Research and Training Center (Transitions RTC) has released two new resources for youth with disabilities. The Outside-The-Box College Accommodations- Real Support for Real Students is a tip sheet that explains students’ rights and responsibilities as they relate to mental health needs in college environments and provides a breakdown of sample accommodations. Effectively Employing Young Adult Peer Providers: A Toolkit is geared toward employers, establishing a supportive organizational culture and preparing peers and staff. For copies of the tip sheet and toolkit, click on the document links in the sentences above. For more resources from the National Center, visit https://medicalhomeinfo.aap.org/tools-resources.
5) Questions for the Parent Coordinator
Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) provides an array of comprehensive and preventive health care services for children under age 21. The Mississippi Family to Family (MS F2F) Parent Coordinator was recently asked: What happens to EPSDT if Medicaid is rolled back? This article explains this very well. https://ccf.georgetown.edu/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/EPSDT-At-Risk-Final.pdf.
6) New Resources on Social-Emotional Development
The Too Small to Fail initiative has released a new white paper, Not Just "Soft Skills": How Young Children’s Learning & Health Benefit from Strong Social-Emotional Development (May 2017), highlighting the research on the importance of children’s social-emotional development (SED) starting at birth. In addition, the initiative has developed new resources on SED to share directly with parents and caregivers around the country. These resources are designed to help parents easily understand the concepts behind SED, and how to apply research-based tips to their everyday lives. All of the resources are available in Spanish.
