1) Register Now- Medical Home/Health Care Transition Trainings – April 4 – 26, Jackson, Long Beach, Tupelo
A medical home is a key component to a successful transition to adulthood. These medical home and health care transition trainings being held in three locations—Long Beach, Jackson and Tupelo—will benefit parents, advocates, educators and medical professionals. Join Mississippi Family to Family (MS F2F) and Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs at the Mississippi State Department of Health for these no cost trainings to understand what to expect from a medical home and how it can help families during the transition process. 2) Autism Screening Day – April 19, 4 to 7 p.m., Grenada, Hattiesburg, Jackson, Long Beach, Ocean Springs, Oxford, Tupelo
As part of autism awareness month, the Mississippi Early Childhood Inclusion Center (MECIC) at The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies will hold a “Screening for Autism Day” in seven cities across the state. MECIC will conduct free screenings for children ages 5 years and under in Tupelo, Jackson, Hattiesburg, Long Beach, Ocean Springs, Oxford, and Grenada from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19. Resources and referrals to agencies such as First Steps and the public schools will be provided to parents. Screenings will be held at the following locations:
Grenada - Families First: Family Resource Center for North MS, 910 Telegraph Street
Hattiesburg - First Presbyterian Church, Currie Hall 102, 4901 Hardy Street
Jackson - Families First Resource Center, 1425 Lakeland Dr., Suite D

3) Family Voices of Mississippi Board Meeting – April 13, Jackson
The Family Voices of Mississippi board of directors will meet on Friday, April 13, at 10 a.m. in the Mississippi Room in the basement of the IHL tower building at 3825 Ridgewood Road in Jackson. 4) IRS Offers Accessible Forms, Publications, and Assistance for Taxpayers with Disabilities
The US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers free assistance to taxpayers who qualify through two programs: the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE). Through these programs, volunteers assist people with disabilities, seniors, those who have low income, and others who may need special help in preparing their basic tax returns. The IRS also provides accessible forms and publications and other resources for taxpayers with disabilities. For more information, visit http://bit.ly/1sNLuxU.
5) American Academy of Pediatrics Special Supplement on Zika
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published a special supplement on Zika in February that includes articles that offer best practices for addressing the needs of children affected by the congenital syndrome, what to expect as affected infants develop, and extensive care coordination with health care professionals to provide the necessary supports and services for families. 6) Spanish Translation of Assistive Technology Information
The Center on Technology and Disability website has a resource library with over 1,000 assistive technology related materials, a webinar center, and a learning center with interactive modules. Their IEP parent tool regarding assistive technology considerations now has a Spanish version to share with your families.
