Job Summary:

 

This position provides input in the development and implementation of IDS-sponsored grants to foster statewide system change; assists in providing training and technical assistance; and provides coordination  of outreach activities to families.

 

 

 

Duties of this position include the following:

 

Adheres to University and department policies, procedures and regulations

 

Provides assistance in the establishment and management of a State

Policy Council and three Community Assessment and Planning Teams

 

Assists in providing training and technical assistance to the State Policy

Council and Three Community Assessment and Planning Teams

 

Provides assistance as a liaison to the Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities in the development and implementation of community hearings and

forums

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Provides input for developing and conducting a statewide assessment of family need for support

 

Provides assistance to the State Policy Council and project staff in the development, adoption and dissemination of a mission, a vision, a set of organizing principles and an action plan to various groups and the general public

 

Provides coordination of outreach activities designed to locate families who are eligible for family support and to identify groups who are under­ served or unserved

 

Provides assistance in the review of applications and the selecting of two demonstration sites for new approaches to provision of family support

 

Provides input to the research coordinator in the implementation of the project evaluation process

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:                     

 

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with two years of related experience and/or training

 

Writing and oral communications skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Valid driver's license

 

 

Prefer a parent of a child/children or young adult with a disability

 

Person must be able to commit to in-state travel

1) Wheelchair Tennis State Championship – Apr. 11-13, Ridgeland

 

The Mississippi Rock N Roll Wheelchair Tennis State Championship will be held April 11 – 13, at the Ridgeland Tennis Center at 201A McClellan Drive in Ridgeland. This is a Southern Grand Prix Series Tournament. Matches will start at 6 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call Johnny McGinn at 601.209.4799.

 

2) Free Self-Advocacy Webinar – Apr. 24

 

The Advocacy TEAMM Mississippi Project and the Mississippi Self-Advocacy Team are co-sponsoring a free webinar on April 24, from 10 – 10:30 a.m.  This webinar will reinforce why young people with disabilities need to learn how to share their voice and become true self-advocates. State and national resources available to help young people take charge of their lives will be discussed. Cynthia “Cindy” A. 3) Limb Loss Awareness Education Day – Apr. 26, Long Beach

 

Limb Loss Awareness Education Day is an event designed to heighten community awareness of those living with and caring for limb loss. This special day will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Technology Learning Center (TLC) of the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. 4) Participants Wanted for Research Study

 

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is looking for adults aged 18 years and over with children living in the household to answer a variety of health questions that may be asked on a national survey. The interview will be no longer than 60 minutes and participants will receive $40. NCHS want to talk to parents or guardians of children 2 to 17 years of age who may have difficulties in seeing, hearing, walking, learning and behavior.
