1) Developmental Screening Days – Mar. 17, Natchez; Mar. 25, Indianola

 

The early years of a child’s development are crucial. If you or your child’s physician, child care provider or pre-K teacher has concerns about your child’s development, plan to attend these free screening events. A screening will be held on Mar. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Natchez at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in the Redd-Watkins Building, Room 206 at 30 Campus Drive. On Mar. 25, a screening day will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Indianola at the Delta Center at 411 Catchings Street. 2) Disability Employment Partnerships Awareness Day at the Capitol – Mar. 17, Jackson

 

It’s time for improved employment outcomes for young Mississippians with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They should have the opportunity for competitive, meaningful employment and productive lives in their home communities. The Mississippi Partnerships for Employment Project (MSPE) wants to ensure that competitive employment in integrated setting is always the first priority option considered in providing employment services. Join MSPE for Disability Employment Partnerships Awareness Day at the Capitol on Tues., Mar. 17, from 6 a.m. until noon. For more information, email Dr. Jerry R. 3) Golden Eagles Wheelchair Basketball Exhibitions – Apr. 11, Hattiesburg

 

Come out and support the Golden Eagles wheelchair basketball team at an upcoming exhibition. On Sat., Apr. 11, the Golden Eagles will host a scrimmage from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Payne Center at Southern Miss. Members of the Golden Eagles wheelchair basketball team will also be featured guests during the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services Vocational Rehabilitation’s district meeting in Gulfport on Mar. 31. The time and location will be announced. Funding for the Golden Eagles is provided by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. 4) 2015 Mississippi disAbility MegaConference – June 18-19, Jackson

 

Online early bird registration for the 2015 Mississippi disAbility MegaConference is now open. The MegaConference is Mississippi’s largest conference for individuals with disabilities, their families and professionals. This year’s conference will focus on the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. On June 17, families will be treated to a special night at the Jackson Zoo. At the conference, speakers and vendors will share the latest information and innovations. Stipends for families are available. CEUs are offered in many disciplines. 5) National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

 

March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and this year, The Arc is calling on advocates across the country to join them in Revealing the Faces of Intellectual and Developmental Disability. The Arc is encouraging everyone to raise awareness about people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) by personalizing narrative.
